    • Imagery relating to A Look Ahead: 24’s Seventh Season

I know that 24’s seventh season is a long way in the future. The show shut down after shooting just 8 episodes, meaning there is a lot of work left to do after things get moving again. The show’s producers and Fox network execs want to be sure that they will be able to air all 24 episodes consecutively. A week off? Unthinkable. The show’s hardcore following would riot. Still, it looks like things are settled in the WGA strike, so work should begin again soon. Here are some of the rumors surrounding 24’s seventh season. I’m not cool enough to be privy to any secret spoilers, but if you don’t want to know anything at all about the season, stop reading.  Now.

      OK?

Season seven will take place 3 years after season 6. Executive Producer Manny Coto told TV Guide that this season will be a bit of a departure from previous ones. “There will not be a ticking clock on a nuclear device [and] the villain is not a terrorist [but] someone with a supremely dark past who’s done something horrific and whose ambition is to regain his stature in the world. There may even be a plot thread that doesn’t take place on U.S. Soil.”

I’m glad to hear that. I was starting to wonder how many more intense seasons 24 could take. There is a fine line between shows that rely on suspense and those who become stale and comical because the characters are in the same situations again and again. I’m sure that, just because of its nature, 24 will continue to be a nail-biter. I’m interested to see how they handle a more low-key season.

Jack is supposed to be on trail for something related to his torture of a terrorist (screen-shot above). However, the show is not, apparently, going to turn into a courtroom drama. Fans wouldn’t allow it and the show’s producers have proved themselves too savvy to end the show on a sour note.

Several people involved with the show say that the season will not be as broad in scope as previous seasons. Things will be darker and more personal for all the characters. Here’s to hoping 24 can pull of a season that is unique enough to be interesting, but exciting enough to keep fans happy.
