    • There is a lot going on at ABC this week. We know a lot of their long absent series are returning in April with at least a few more episodes following the strike halt, but ABC is also looking ahead to next season with all new shows being considered for their line-up. ABC has picked up two pilots. Both are comedies, but one is from Rob Thomas. No, not the singer from Matchbox 20, but the other Rob Thomas that created Veronica Mars. He has been busy writing a lot lately.

This is his third pilot pick-up in the last month or so. He is also behind another ABC pick-up for a remake of Cupid, and just a couple of weeks ago CW picked up a spin-off from him of 1990s hit series, Beverly Hills 90210. This new pick-up is for an hour long comedy that he is basing off an New Zealand series called Outrageous Fortune. The plot follows a family of criminals that decides to go straight once the father is sent to prison. The other new pick-up by ABC is called Five Year Plan, and it follows two brothers and their friends, all of which are trying to live by their own five year plans.

In other ABC news, it was just announced that actress Amy Madigan will be joining the cast of Grey’s Anatomy in a recurring role when the series returns on April 24th. The series arc will bring in the actress in for five episodes as a psychiatrist. I’ve missed my Grey’s Anatomy, and I’m glad to see it returning to the line-up. When it does, it will be proceeded by Ugly Betty and followed by Lost. This may be the new era for a must see TV Thursday night line-up. In the past, that title was held by NBC.

Lastly, Jimmy Kimmel is hitting his one thousandth episode for his talk show next week. ABC plans to air an extended episode for the event. Jimmy has been seen a lot lately. The two parody videos that appeared on his show in recent months have earned him a lot of attention and quite a few laughs. Will we see yet another video calling out who Kimmel is sleeping with now? We’ll have to wait until the episode airs on April 3rd.
