American Idol is set to return to television next week, but American Idol host Paula Abdul is in talks to appear on the Super Bowl half time show when football has its biggest night in Arizona next month. Tom Petty has long been announced as the main attraction of the event, but now Paula Abdul and possibly co-judge Randy Jackson are set to duet together with their song from Randy Jackson’s CD.

Some are saying Abdul will appear some time during the broadcast, and we all know Super bowl Sunday is a huge yearly event with advertising costing in the millions for a mere thirty second slot. Halftime is a possibility, but she could also make her appearance during the pre-game show. She has been working recently on new choreography for the music video of her duet, and those same dance moves could be used for her performance.

Abdul hasn’t had any new material in over ten years, but in the eighties and early nineties, she was pretty popular. I even went to see her in concert on her Spellbound tour. For the past six seasons, she has been judging American Idol, and it looks like she will continue to do so at least through the 2009 television season. She’s had her ups and downs in her personal life, but professionally things have been somewhat steady. It’ll be interesting to see what she can do as a performer after all this time. Does she still have it? We will find out if the deal moves forward. This year’s Super Bowl takes place in Arizona on February 3rd.
