    • A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that Days Of Our Lives had fired two of their most popular stars. They had both been with the series for years, but with this economy their salaries were just costing way too much. Now other soap operas are making changes with their own casts. Salaries are being cut, and now some are wondering if the day of the daytime soap opera is coming to an end.

ABC seems to be the one making the majority of the changes. They aren’t firing anyone yet, but they are cutting salaries where needed. One of those salaries being cut is of popular soap star, Susan Lucci. Apparently she makes approximately 10,000 per episode, and we know in the land of daytime television, they go year round, only taking weekends and a few holidays off during the year. That can add up, and she might be felling it in her pocket book.

General Hospital and One Life To Live are also being forced to make changes. No idea on what those are yet, but I’m sure we will find out sooner or later. As a fan of daytime television, I think the loss of the soap opera would be something felt by many. The networks don’t see them going away yet, but some are in danger of it. Days of our Lives and Guiding Light immediately come to mind. I would hate to see Guiding Light go especially. That one has been a part of my life for so long, but with the economy how it is these days, nothing is safe.

I hope things get better or there will be no storylines worth watching.
