C4 bucking the trend, more factual content…
-

The BBC’s recently chosen to ditch factual content in favour of more budget friendly reality shows but, fortunately, Channel 4 has stepped into the breach. Unveiling their winter line up, they announced their intend to load up their 9pm slots with factual content, starting in January with a gluten of food related shows.
January will see some heavyweight personalities hitting our screens, including Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall with
Hugh’s Chicken Run
, Jamie Oliver withJamie’s Fowl Dinners
and Gordon Ramsay withCook-a-Long-a-Gordon Live
. The shows are hopefully going to encourage people tothink before they eat
.Later on in the year, Stephen Hawking will present
Stephen Hawking: Master of the Universe
, a two-part series analysing our understanding of the Universe. We’ll be treated to arevisit
of 2005’sBig Art Project
and experience the delight’s Alan Carr’s first solo attempt withAlan Carr’s Celebrity Ding Dong
.Unfortunately we’ve not been ridded of all reality-rubbish, while Celebrity Big Brother won’t be returning it’s been replaced by
Celebrity Hijack
which will be keeping Dermot O’Leary in work
2008 looks set to be an interesting year and with the BBC languising on the verge of bankruptcy (maybe a little overstated), it’s time for the other broadcasters to challenge their monopoly!

OTH Season 5 Photos
-
StarNewsOnline has some early screen grabs from One Tree Hill season 5, interesting stuff!

The child in the pictures is Hayleigh and Nathan’s son (the one she was pregnant with at the end of season 4). The production crew has done a pretty good job of making the characters 4 years older (when they’re not even 1 year older in real-life). Hayleigh looks the most aged to me, but I think that’s just her bad dress sence. Lucas’ lame attempt at a beard hasn’t really made him look any older and Antwon basically looks the same as before.
Someone really needs to sort Mouth’s hair out, they can’t broadcast a show with him looking like that!

Blaspheming BBC
-

It appears I’ve been under an illusion for most of my life, I was always lead to believe that Britain was a multi-cultural society… But apparently nay!
Stephen Green (Christian Voice) has chosen to appeal the decision of a judge not to allow him to pursue a case against BBC for airing
Jerry Springer - The Opera
in 2005. Stephen Green is aiming to sue the BBC based on Christianblasphemy
laws. The show depicted Jesus in a number of negative ways, includinga little bit gay
and in Green’s own wordsthe perv in a nappy
.I find this absolutely ridiculous! There was a big deal made about this show before it aired, so why the hell would a Christian actually watch it, knowing they would probably be offended? Also, why are Christian
laws
still in existence? Christians are no longer the driving force in Britain, they should not be able to dictate the law and infringe freedom of speech. At the end of the day, by suing the BBC he’s only suing the British public, I sincerely hope this case gets thrown out straight away!

Soaps 2.0 is here!
-

You know TV 2.0 is well and truly upon us when you start seeing facebook widgets for your favourite soaps, including Emmerdale and Corrie.
ITV have released a set of widgets for their two dominant soaps that can be embedded on a variety of Social Networking sites, most notably MySpace, Facebook, Netvibes and iGoogle.
The widgets display headlines and excerpts of the latest news on your favourite shows, including previews of upcoming shows. I can’t really see them taking off, they don’t allow for any true interaction apart from sharing the widget with friends (yet more facebook “add this application” spam).
This is just a blatant attempt by ITV to exploit growing trends online and generate some
viral
buzz. They’ve managed to successful create a TV-internet parallel campaign previously withThe Bill
(a la Heroes 360 experience) and it’s disappointing not to see them taking the same approach here.
