Battlestar Back in Fine Form
-

The fourth and final season of Battlestar Galactica kicked off this past weekend. Will there be drama to the bitter end or will the show go out with a whimper? All signs point to the former. The drama and twists from the season premiere were equal to that of the previous seasons. It’s rare that a show’s final season is its best. Can Galactica break that mold?
Some highlights (Beware of spoilers after the jump). Colonial Tigh, former resistance leader turned pilot Anders, Chief Tyrol, and presdiential aide Tory Foster think they are cylons. If they are, that leaves only one cylon unaccounted for. Beware of plot twists ahead though. Any one of those four could be a human trying to infiltrate the group(?).
Kara “Starbuck” Thrace lands on Galactica after having been MIA. Her arrival is met with suspicion more than happiness. She claims to have seen earth but Admiral Adama can’t risk trusting here yet. This makes Starbuck think back to her time as a cylon prisoner on Capricia. Could they have brainwashed her or performed surgery to turn her into a cylon?
Apollo turns down a chance to return to the fleet command. He says, rather mysteriously, that he wants to take a job in the government becasue he could do more good there.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger with Starbuck decides that the only way to get the fleet going in the right direction is to confront President Roslin. She overpowers the President’s security and enters the Roslin’s room wielding a gun.
What’s the key to this season? Thus far, Galactica has done a great job ramping up the plot. Eventually, some of the drama has to be resolved. Not all of it, but fans won’t settle for a completely open ended conclusion. How these resolutions are handled by the writers will decide if this show ends well or poorly in the eyes of viewers. The jury is out, but it sure looks like this is going to be one hell of a season.

A bit about Josh
Josh lives in the Midwestern U.S. He probably spends too much time in front of the TV, but is able to justify that fact by writing the odd article about what he watches. Josh also writes about the media, culture, and travel.
