Breaking The Fourth Wall: Wanted in 2008
-
People are always saying what they want for Christmas. What I want are a few things for 2008 in television:
1. The End Of The WGA Strike
I don’t think I need to really get into why (fair pay, hello!).2. A Fun New Season Of Psych.
A guilty little pleasure of mine is a show on USA called Psych. When I read the summary of the show (a slacker with great detective ability pretends to be a psychic so he can work with the police department), I thought it sounded lame. However, James Roday as irresponsible slacker Shawn and Dule’ Hill as his best friend, responsible, upstanding but just as goofy Gus have the best chemistry on tv right now. They know each other so well, that watching them push each other’s buttons is hilarious. When you bundle that up with Corbin Bernson as Shawn’s retired cop father and Timothy Omundson (who some of you might remember as Sean Potter on Judging Amy) as Carlton Lassitor, the stick in the mud exasperated detective who always seems to have to tangle with Shawn and Gus and the light but still interesting mysteries and pop culture references, you got a great little show. The new season starts January 11th and I already have my season pass set on my DVR.3. A Great Ending To The Shield
Shawn Ryan created the gritty crime drama The Shield, which helped FX become a leader in original dramas on basic cable (see also: Nip/Tuck and Damages). Coming into it’s seventh and final season, crooked Detective Vic Mackey (played to the very edge by Michael Chiklis) should start seeing his world start falling apart. After robbing an Armenian Mob’s money train, killing a fellow cop and now dealing with the fallout of his best friend and coworker Shane (Walton Goggins) finally confessing to him that he killed fellow Detective Lemanski (Kenny Johnson), this final season of The Shield should not disappoint. On a side note, I feel for Shawn Ryan who was neither involved nor at the filming of his last episode of the series because of the WGA Strike.4. The Screen Actors Guild Does Not Go On Strike
This summer the SAG has to go into negotiations for new contracts much like the WGA had to, and we see how that ended up. Here’s to hoping that everything goes smoothly.5. The Return Of Saturday Nite Live
Let the flames begin! Yes! I am a fan of SNL. It gets good, it gets bad, it gets too long, it gets silly, it gets terribly not funny, it gets hilarious. Part of the fun of watching it is seeing what is going to happen next. And the best part is watching it with a DVR to get thru the awful stuff to the truly funny bits. There are a few other things I am looking forward to that I am keeping for another column, so tune in soon!

A bit about yatesy
My name is Nicole Yates and I watch a ridiculous amount of television. Thanks to my dvr, I can actually watch it at my leisure. I have a background in writing and film from Temple University and have written for lots of other websites. Besides TV, I enjoy working with my friend's band (Domi), goofing around with computer stuff and drinking heavily. -

I too would love to see the return of SNL! As you said, they do have their good and bad moments, but overall, SNL is funny and entertaining… I always looked forward to Saturday nights.
