• Spotlight: T.R. Knight Leaves Grey’s Anatomy

    • Earlier this month, we saw the fifth season finale for Grey’s Anatomy, and we were left on a bit of cliffhanger as it looked like both Izzie Stevens and George O’Malley died. George was hit by a bus while trying to prevent a young woman suffering the same fate. We went nearly two hours thinking the bus guy was some anonymous John Doe until George was finally able to clue Meredith in that it was him.

Just as that happened, Izzie stopped breathing in Alex’s arms. The team at Seattle Grace had to rush to save both of them, and we once again saw Izzie in her prom dress on the elevator, but this time it wasn’t Denny that was waiting for her. This time it was George, and that is where the season ended. This started speculation. Some said George would be back, but with a new face and another actor taking over the role.

However, the main writer over at Grey’s Anatomy has come out and said that George is dead. No new actor will play him. This just ruins the big cliffhanger. However, many can still spend the summer months wondering if Izzie also died, or if it was just George by himself. Some are already upset by T.R. Knight leaving the show and the fact George is now gone. Some have even promised to stop watching the series. Grey’s Anatomy will return in the fall. What do you think of T.R. Knight’s departure from Grey’s Anatomy?

    • Spotlight: Dark Angel

    • With Fox making early announcements about the future of some of their series, some have thought about past series as well. Just not too long ago I mentioned two series that Fox put the axe down on not too long ago.  Sit Down, Shut Up was canceled this week, and I’m sure we will learn the fate of more series when Fox has its upfronts this week. One series that has come up by some recently is Dark Angel.

The series aired on Fox nearly ten years ago, and it was how one Jessica Alba earned her big start. She had done roles before then, but nothing quite as big as Dark Angel. The series was the brain child of James Cameron, who at that time had just come out of a high with Titanic, which is one of the biggest movies of all time. A fact that he wanted to go to television was not expected, but he moved forward with a series, and that series was Dark Angel. A series that Fox took on, and for two years we followed one genetically enhanced female as she lived her live in the not so distant future.

However, low ratings and a price tag of nearly $2 million an episode to make the series caused Fox to lose faith in the series. They moved it to Friday night, and we all know what a dead night for television that is. However, things looked good the series. Season two ended, and we looked ahead to season three. However, a few weeks after the season finale aired we learned that the series wouldn’t have a third season.

We see a similar issue now with another series. Oddly enough, James Cameron isn’t involved in the series, but he did create the original Terminator and these characters. Many have said Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is done, but we won’t know the answer to that question to later this week when Fox has its upfronts in New York City.

    • Spotlight: Full House

    • When you think of classic 80s television shows, one that immediately comes to mind is Full House. The sitcom that follows Danny Tanner as he tries to raise three daughters after the death of his wife. He has some help though his brother-in-law and his best friend. For about eight years, we watched as three little girls grew up.

Since then, the youngest of the Tanner daughters played by a set of twins in this series have grown up. Bob Saget moved onto America’s Funniest Home Videos and more stand-up comedy, and we saw John Stamos marry Rebecca Romijn, get divorced, have a few shows here and there, and then eventually land himself a role on ER that just ended when the series finally said its final good-bye last month.

Full House was a family dramedy. Enough moments to keep us laughing each and every week with conflicts of a trying to cope raising a family during the time when Danny as a man didn’t really have a clue on how to do that. Bring three men together as they try to figure out how to raise three little girls while trying to live their lives, full of love and families of their own, and you had a good show that I know I tuned in to watch weekly.

Now the girls have all grown up. The Olsen Twins have had their fair share of troubles over the years, but this isn’t the time to discuss celebrity gossip! Did you watch Full House back in the day?

    • Spotlight: The Leann Affair

    • About a week and a half ago, news broke about a possible affair between country singer and actress Leann Rimes and the co-star from her latest television movie, Eddie Cibrain. The two starred together on a movie that aired on Lifetime last weekend, Northern Lights. When the affair rumors broke, both sides of it came out denying that anything happened between the two of them while they worked together or since.

However, it doesn’t really matter if they had an affair or not. The rumors alone brought people in to watch the movie. The film had the highest turn out in viewers for the network. The movie didn’t top anything that topped the network last year however. This does bring up something interesting. The fact that more people tuned in just because of a few juicy rumors makes you wonder. Does this happen more often than not?

Did more people tune in to watch Grey’s Anatomy with some of the behind the scenes drama and the buzz surrounding their more outrageous story lines? How about Ghost Whisperer? Have more tuned in now after hearing about the story line with Melinda and her husband Jim? His death and the eventual body swapping has been big news since it happened in November. The rumors of an off-screen woman between Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jamie Kennedy has also been making news in recent weeks. Does news and rumors like this make you tune in more? What do you think?

    • Spotlight: American Idol

    • American Idol’s season has started, and we have had the last three weeks full of auditions. The customary fourth week we would see here is now gone. Things are changing in the world when it comes to American Idol. A new judge was added to the mix this season, a week was cut off of auditions, which is probably good because the show was somehow running out of material by the last set of auditions.

One of the big changes this year is still to come. Instead of the final twenty-four, we will have the top thirty-six battle it out starting this week. There is no denying that American Idol is still one of the top shows on air. Nearing thirty million viewers tune in weekly to watch the action. The numbers may have dropped slightly with the seasons as they go on, but people still watch. American Idol makes Fox one of the top networks, if not the top network.

American Idol numbers are even beating out Lost’s numbers, and that is definitely saying something. The first American Idol is even making waves again with her new solo effort, as Kelly Clarkson tops the billboard charts with her latest single. American Idol looks like a neverending story. How many seasons will this yearly search and story go on? We will ever see a real end to American Idol? I really don’t know.  Anything is possible when it comes to television. I think it all depends on the judges. American Idol would not be the same without them.
