News from ABC and Dancing With The Stars has come out that one of the dancers has left the competition. The news first broke on Saturday that the athlete had injured herself Friday during rehearsals, but the people at Dancing With The Stars kept the news mostly under wraps until Monday’s show aired. Brooke Burke did speak before that, and she was the one that confirmed that Misty May-Treanor was out of the competition.

The Olympic Volleyball player explained how her injury happened on Monday night’s performance episode for Dancing With The Stars. She says she heard a pop while she was rehearsing the Lindy Hop with her partner. The pop turned out to be a ruptured Achilles tendon on her left leg. As an athlete this could spell the end of her career, but she didn’t answer those questions when asked by the host Tom Bergeron. The athelete didn’t undergo surgery on Tuesday. As a volleyball player, the feet are almost as important as her hands. She needs to be able to jump and move around the court.

As a fan of Dancing With The Stars, I am sad to see Misty May go. This isn’t the first injury this season. Kim Kardashian also injured her toe right before the season started, but the injury was not severe. She went on to perform, but she was sent home already this season. Dancing With The Stars airs on Monday and Tuesday nights on ABC. Are you watching Dancing With The Stars this season? What do you think?

For weeks, rumors of the cast getting ready to strut their stuff on the dance floor for the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars. Months ago rumors even flew around a bit about Paula Abdul wanting to appear on the series if she could manage it with her demanding American Idol schedule. She is not on the list for this season, and that means if we see the American Idol judge appear it won’t be until next fall. However, we have a large cast of celebrities hoping to walk away from the competition with the coveted mirrorball trophy at the end of season seven.

Some of the names include All My Children star Susan Lucci, singer Toni Braxton and former *Nsync star Lance Bass. Kim Kardashian is also a part of this season’s cast, and she already made news this week as she sliced her toe on Monday. She did talk to Good Morning America once the cast announcement was made that the injury would not prevent her from appearing on the series. Other names set to dance away on stage include Warran Sapp, Cloris Leachman, and two Olympic sports stars, Misty May-Treanor and Maurice Greene. For a full list, you can check out my blog, Celebrity Today!

Dancing With The Stars is one series I always seem to find myself watching year after year. The celebrity dancers really step up and do their best. Yes, some have come out and made jokes of themselves, but we’ve also seen some real talent on that series with Mario Lopez, Drew Lachey and the two Joey’s, Mcintyre and Lawrence, all surprising me. It will be interesting to see what this cast of celebrities does. Any early predictions out there folks?

This week is finale week for our favorite competitions. Over on Fox, David Cook and David Archuleta fought for America’s votes to become the next American Idol. We will see who wins that title on tonight’s finale, but last night the night belonged to Dancing With The Stars. The series took over ABC for three hours, two of those hours for the finale. Early on in the finale, we saw Cristián de la Fuente eliminated. This left Kristi Yamaguchi and Jason Taylor to dance once for the judges vote. Those totals were added into the viewer vote and we had one couple named this season’s champions.

That title for season six goes to Kristi Yamaguchi. A woman has not won the competition since season one, and this was something they kept mentioning over and over again the last two nights. That has changed though. Kristi was the best dancer in this season’s competition. Kristi and her partner, Mark Ballas, shined on stage from the very beginning. In the first episode this season, they received the highest score any couple has received in the opening week. Once she learned how to throw her emotions into her performances, these two were difficult to beat.

Last night’s finale also included two performances from Usher, the announcement of the winners of the junior dance competition, and the return of the rest of this season’s couples to the dance floor. All in all, it was a great night. For those dance fans wondering where they might get their dance fix this summer, So You Think You Can Dance premieres Thursday night on Fox with a two hour season premiere. First, let’s find out who our next American Idol is. Check back here tomorrow for my reaction to that announcement!

The stages are now set for next week’s finales for both Dancing With The Stars and American Idol. Each series had their semi-finals this week, and one more was sent home from each. On Dancing With The Stars, we saw the final four couples pick their dances out of a hat, and they had to come up with new choreography. All did well, but it was obvious here who would be sent home during the performances.

This week Marissa Jaret Winokur was picked to go home. She has been a great asset to the series this season with her bubbly personality. She showed the American viewers that you don’t have to be skinny to dance and dance well. She just doesn’t have the skill to match up to the others still remaining in the competition at this point. Many are shocked she made it passed Mario and Shannon Elizabeth.

As for American Idol, this week the final three fought it out for the final two spots in next week’s finale. They each sang three songs each. One picked by the judges, one they picked themselves, and one picked for them by the producers. During their performances, it was easy to see who would be sent home this week just by the judge’s comments.

Syesha Mercado packed her bags this week, and this means we will see David Archuleta and David Cook in next week’s finale. This is something I have been predicting for weeks now. These two stand out the most, and it will be interesting to see just what they end up doing next week. Archuleta has been the one with most of the buzz surrounding him because of his father. He has been asked by the producers to not help his son with his song choices or performance preparations. Young David is all on his own.

The series celebrated that fact last night during its weekly results show. Here we are towards the end of season six, and we really show no signs of the dancing craze stopping. Next week, we head into the semi-finals with the final four left in the competition. One more celebrity and their partner was sent home last night. This week, that honor went to Mario, the youngest competitor on the series. The audience was packed with former contestants, and some even came on stage to perform.

When the show premiered a few years ago, I wasn’t sure what to make of it. It seemed to be trying to capitalize on the popularity of So You Think You Can Dance, which returns for another season later this month. The first season was a hit and miss, and there was even some controversy with who won the competition the first time out the gate. We’ve had less problems of that sort since the show premiered, but the show has had its share of drama. Cristian has continued on, even with the injury to his arm, but you have to wonder if this injury will end up causing him the competition as things get even tougher in these final weeks. His partner, Cheryl Burke, won’t be able to work around his injury forever.

While I wasn’t too sure about this series when it began, I now look forward to seeing it when it airs. There is already talk about who will be joining for season seven. Rumors are that Paula Abdul wants to join as a celebrity dancer. However, the judges have already mentioned some reservations about this. We’ll have to see what happens in the month ahead. If she was to join the show, it would have to be during the fall season. Even with the two series taping close by, her appearing during the spring when American Idol is in full swing is completely out of the question.

The show is taped live, and as we know when it is live anything can happen. Last season, we watched as Marie Osmond fainted on stage. This season was a bit more serious. On Monday night’s performance show Cristián de la Fuente was dancing his second dance with partner Cheryl Burke when he suffered an injury. It was obvious something happened, and he continued on as best as he could in order to prevent injury coming to his partner.

Once the music stopped, he told the host Tom Bergeron that he pulled a muscle in his arm. Early reports were that it might be a severe muscle cramp. The injury sent him to the hospital, and it was used to tease the show until the results were made known at the end of last night’s episode. There was concern that Cristián might have to leave the series. As it came time to reveal the celebrity eliminated, he was brought up to the front and asked about his injury.

As it turns out, he needs surgery for a ruptured tendon in his arm. However, the doctors told him that this surgery could be held off for him to continue on in the competition. This is what he has opted to do. There are only a few weeks left in this season’s competition, and it really is anyone’s game right now. Shannon Elizabeth was eliminated last night, even after receiving praise and good scores from the judges.

Is this a case of the voters not being happy with Shannon and her partner’s reaction to the judges comments last week? Both Shannon and Derek were extremely vocal, and this week they were very vocal again with apologies and kind words for the judges. This might have hurt them in the eyes of the viewers. Next week, Dancing With The Stars will celebrate its 100th episode. How time flies!

Two of the biggest shows when it comes to reality competition series are American Idol and Dancing With The Stars. American Idol is currently in its seventh season, and Dancing With The Starsis in the midst of its sixth season. What if the two met? It is possible. Tom Bergeron mentioned in an interview with Ryan Seacrest that American Idol judge Paula Abdul has expressed an interest in participating in the dancing competition. If she does, it could happen as soon as this fall. A spring appearance would be out of the question due to her responsibilities to American Idol in the spring. Paula Abdul is a dancer and a choreographer, but she has no formal dance training in ballroom dancing. That should make it interesting. Her dance experience would certainly be a help.

On this week’s Dancing With The Stars, we saw our celebrities dance either a tango or a jive. All of the celebrities threw themselves into their performances on Monday night, but one celebrity was still sent home on Tuesday. That honor was left to total nice guy, Steve Guttenberg. I know I’ll miss seeing him on the series. In the short three weeks he appeared he had made friends with the entire Dancing crew this season, and he had such a cheery personality. This isn’t a competition about personality though. It is a dancing competition, and he just doesn’t have the skills needed for a competition such as this.

As for American Idol, the top nine left in the competition worked with mentor Dolly Parton and sang selections for her collection of songs. As with any week, there were some hits and misses. Simon, as always, has his own comments. He told Carly Smithson that she needed to speak to her wardrobe person because she didn’t look like a star. A comment that put Paula into an uproar. Tonight, one more contestant will go home. Next Wednesday, American Idol Gives Backwill air with a star studded two and a half hour show looking to give to several charities. Ellen Degeneres will come in to help Ryan host, and there will be appearances by several stars and past Idol contestants.

The sixth season of the popular dance competition series, Dancing With The Stars, is well underway. Last week, we saw a two night premiere with the men and the women each having their own night. This week we had a two hour performance show on Monday with all of our dancers this season taking the floor. Tuesday night, we saw our first eliminations of the season with a double elimination, one female and one male were sent home.

Even with it being early on in the competition, we can see we have a few contenders and a few losers that face going home early on. Ice queen, Kristi Yamaguchi, is an early on favorite with the judges, while Marlee Matlin is my early on favorite. On the male side of things, Mario and Jason Taylor both look to have the most potential to go far in this competition. This week we said good-bye to Penn Jillette and Monica Seles. These two came out with the weakest performances of everyone, so it was a natural to see them go. I will say watching Penn dance was entertaining, but he didn’t have the skill needed for this competition at all.

This season already has more antics than previous ones. Penn came out with a voodoo doll similar in look to one of the judges, and Adam Carolla called one of the judges a name after she gave him his score during the first week’s competition. The contestants this season don’t appear to be holding back any, so this may make for an interesting show to watch during the weeks ahead. Just who will be crowned champion at the end? There really is no knowing. There are strong competitors on both sides, so it really is anybody’s game at this point.

ABC’s smash hit Dancing With The Starsis set to return with a whole new competition next month. This series teams up celebrities with professional dancers as they compete for America’s vote each and every week. One celebrity and their partner are sent home each week until one couple remains to win the mirror-ball trophy. This season’s twelve celebrities were announced last night during ABC’s Dance Wars. This season we actually have some truly interesting faces. We have awards winning performers and sports stars.

The show will return on March 17th with a two night premiere. On Monday, the first six will perform, followed by the next six on Tuesday night. They will then perform a second routine the following week before the first eliminations take place on Tuesday. That night will see two couples cut in a double elimination. They always say being the first to dance and being the first sent home is always the hardest. Who will make it to the very end? We will have to wait and see how things end up playing out on this season’s show.

When I first heard of this series several years ago, I didn’t honestly think it would end up becoming this phenomenon. People seem to love a good competition, and with each year that has passed the celebrities coming on the show perform have honestly stepped up their game. Some take the competition seriously, and it shows in their rehearsal bits shown during the season. We’ve seen injuries, tears, and celebrities continue on even after facing diversity in their own lives. I have been caught up in the action, and this happens to be one of my favorite series on television.

This is the season for the sixth season of Dancing With The Stars:

Adam Carolla (partner Julianne Hough)
Cristián de la Fuente (partner Cheryl Burke)
Shannon Elizabeth (partner Derek Hough)
Steve Guttenberg (partner Anna Trebunskaya)
Mario (partner Karina Smirnoff)
Marlee Matlin (partner Fabian Sanchez)
Penn Jillette (partner Kym Johnson)
Priscilla Presley (partner Louis van Amstel)
Monica Seles (partner Jonathan Roberts)
Jason Taylor (partner Edyta Sliwinska)
Marissa Jaret Winokur (partner Tony Dovolani)
Kristi Yamaguchi (partner Mark Ballas)

The next season of Dancing With The Starswon’t begin until sometimes in 2008 with March mentioned as a possible return date, but fans of the series can now catch their favorites on tour. The Dancing With The Stars tour kicked off on Tuesday night in Seattle, and fans are being treated to watching their favorites on stage and in person.

The tour started off with some problems though. Two time champion, Cheryl Burke, came down ill and things had to be re-worked before the day of the show. Smirnoff, another professional dancer on the series and tour, has had to step in to partner Cheryl’s partner, champion Drew Lachey, while Burke heads home to San Francisco to visit her own doctors to see what is the cause of her illness. She and the rest of her tour mates are hoping she can return quickly and she doesn’t require surgery.

Appendicitis has been mentioned as diagnosis, and if that is the case Burke will have to end up missing out on the tour completely. Cheryl is a fan favorite having the championship twice. First with partner Drew Lachey, and then again with Emmitt Smith. This year’s champions will also join the tour with a brief engagement due to Helio’s schedule.
