The buzz around Hollywood this week is that their are plans in motion to kill off Dr. Izzie Stevens from Grey’s Anatomy this season. This is following the comments Katherine Heigl made just last month when she withdrew herself from Emmy contention. Some are saying the powers behind Grey’s Anatomy are mad, and they want Izzie dead. However, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy has come out to deny these rumors.

The writers are mad, but those in the cast have come out making comments in support of Heigl. This season of Grey’s Anatomy was not its best. I’ve stated that before, and I will state it again. It didn’t pack the punch that previous seasons had, and Heigl was the only brave enough to say so as a member of the cast. She called a spade a spade. However, this doesn’t always bode well when someone speaks their mind.

Will her comments spell the end of her involvement with Grey’s Anatomy? We will have to tune in this next season to find out. We do know Grey’s Anatomy has no problems taking out the trash. They sent Washington packing after his issues on set. In other ABC news, GLAAD has recognized Brothers & Sisters for its gay story line. That series came in two seasons in the time slot once owned by Grey’s Anatomy, and it is now entering its third season.

This series is one of my favorites, and I loved how they handled the story line with Kevin and his boyfriend, now husband. Yes, gay marriages have hit prime time. While it has been seen before on series such as Roseanne, this is the first time a series has had it happen between two regular characters.

There is word that we may see a new doctor join the cast of Grey’s Anatomythis season. Kevin McKidd is rumored to be joining the cast as a doctor coming in after working for some time in Iraq. McKidd was last seen on Journeyman, which was liked, but the series just didn’t kick up much ratings rise. He’s also appeared in Trainspotting and HBO’s Rome. This isn’t set in stone yet, but the series could use some fresh blood to liven up the place.

I’ve been a fan of Grey’s Anatomy since the very beginning. Season two was one of the best of television series for me in awhile. This most recent season just had me puzzled. It never picked up any momentum for me, and it was just weak in comparison to the previous seasons. There were some highlights, but not many. Was sending off Addison to Los Angeles the smartest decision they could have made? Was losing Burke hurtful to the series in the long run?

These are all questions I have pondered myself. The writer’s strike might be to blame for the issues that Grey’s Anatomy had this year. Katherine Heigl has said her performance and the performance of the writers wasn’t strong enough to warrant an Emmy nomination this year, and this caused a true firestorm that has yet to be resolved. It looks for now Heigl will remain a part of the cast, but her future might be limited.

One of the surprises this past season for me was the lesbian relationship beginning between Torres and Hahn. This was initiated by Addison’s comments, and I almost wish Private Practice would fall apart. Addison was a vital part of this cast, and it took her returning for one episode for me to see that. We’ll have to see what happens in this upcoming season of Grey’s Anatomy. It is filming now.

We have two weeks before another strike can take our favorites movies and television series out of production once again, and things are starting to get scary. If things aren’t settled by June 30, we could see productions halted, and once again we could have blank television screens full of repeats. Many movie productions are trying to get things settled in the next week or two. If a strike does happen though, not every production will be ready for it.

As far as television goes, the Kiefer Sutherland series, 24, looks to be ready if a strike does happen. They have production mostly wrapped up on both the season and the movie prequel set to air this fall. Other series have at least several episodes of their next seasons already in the can and ready to go. These include such hits as Heroes and Grey’s Anatomy. However, a new season might be delayed. The ABC series has been under fire this week because of the comments made by one of the series’ stars.

Katherine Heigl plays Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy, and earlier this week she pulled herself out of contention for this year’s Emmy race. She won an Emmy last year for her role, but this year she doesn’t feel that there was enough there for her to receive a nomination. This has caused quite a stir among fans and non-fans of the show. Some see her words as ungrateful and biting the hand that has fed her so much success.

One writer has spoken out about her comments, and some are saying that Heigl’s time on the show is short. We all know they have no problems removing someone from the cast if an issue arises. Look at what happened with Isaiah Washington at the end of season two. Time will only tell if Heigl remains a part of the Grey’s Anatomy family.

Three years ago, a new show came in mid-season for what was supposed to be a brief run. It mixed medical and drama in a hospital in Seattle. We had new faces and old ones all mixing in together for one ensemble cast. By the end of what was supposed to be a short run, Grey’s Anatomy had stolen the time slot from the series it was replacing, and it went on through May. Season one was a short nine episodes, but it packed a power punch that left people waiting on the edge of their seats until September.

I began watching the series when it first premiered, and I’ve kept watching it ever since. This year is its fourth season, and I think the show only manages to keep getting better and better. There is solid writing each and every week. The cast of actors is put together well. There have been additions to the cast that has made up for the losses made by departures. I tune in each and every week just to find out what is happening. I’ve cried and laughed because of this series. Sometimes I’ve done both in the same episode.

I’ve never had a show grab me as much as this one series has. The show has had its bumps on and off screen. Off screen there have been battles and time slot shifts. Another shift of that nature is happening this month when Lost takes over its prime Thursday time slot. Tonight’s new episode is the last we’ll see until the strike ends. There really is no idea when that will be. Lost returns at the end of the month with eight new episodes.

The show stars have become more and more noticeable as the seasons pass. Many have taken their off time to film movies. Katherine Heigl and Patrick Dempsey both have done film work in the last year, and I’m sure there is more to come. A spin-off has also been made already. We’ll have to wait and see if the series continues on as it is, and for just how long.

Grey’s Anatomy is moving from its current time slot on Thursday’s to a new time slot. Hit by the strike, the series has only one more new episode in the can before they hit repeats. That episode is set to air on January 10th after being pushed back a week from January 3rd. Because of this push back, NBC and ABC did a bit of a tango. NBC’s The Celebrity Apprenticewas originally slated to premiere on January 3rd, but they pushed that back to January 10th.

When Grey’s Anatomy made its change, NBC switched their new series back. Confusing, but it shows just how important shows and their time slots are. No one wants to go against an all new episode of Grey’s Anatomy if they can help it. Starting January 31st, another powerhouse will take over the Grey’s Anatomy time slot when Lost premieres its fourth season. Right now, Losthas eight episodes ready to go, and if the strike ends quickly they might be able to put together they remaining eight they planned to produce for this season.

In other Grey’s Anatomynews, series star Katherine Heigl married yesterday to musician Josh Kelley. The actress plays Izzie Stevens on the series. It was said to be a beautiful ceremony with many of Heigl’s cast mates in attendance. Next up for Heigl is the film release of 27 Dresses next month.
