The last episode of Kid Nation aired on CBS last night (Wednesday, December 12, 2007), and to be totally honest, I was disappointed with the ending. I had expected more. For instance, one final $20,000 gold star was awarded to Zach. Then later three $50,000 gold stars were given to Sophia, Morgan and Migle. I honestly thought Kid Nation was going to give all of the remaining kids some type of reward money, but only four received reward money. Plus, the town council (I think) should have also received something since it appeared that they weren’t eligible for the gold star, because they made the decision as to whom the gold star winner would be.

Another huge disappointment was at the end, when they decided to burn the job board and announced there would be no more rules. While this was a bit interesting, I would have rather seen this happen at least a few weeks before the final show. I think it would have been more interesting to see how the kids faired with no rules longer than their final three days.

Aside from the letdowns, I did find the show entertaining. It was interesting to watch 40 kids run a ghost town all on their own. In fact, I loved the way the kids had to live like they use to in the old days by hauling water, using and cleaning outhouses, washing their clothes on washboards and etc. The kids even proved they were smart with many of their reward choices. If I correctly recall, they only chose one fun reward: the arcade. Overall, most of their reward choices were intelligent ones.

I’m not sure if there are plans for a Kid Nation 2, but if there is, I would definitely watch again. However, I would hope CBS could implement a few of the changes I addressed in the beginning of this post… and, of course, some new twists would add to the entertainment aspect.

What’s your take on Kid Nation? Did you enjoy it, or did you stop watching after the first episode? Would you watch another season of Kid Nation? I’d love to hear your opinions, too.
