Jay Leno Says Good-bye
-
Tonight starts a new era in late night television. Conan takes over The Tonight Show on NBC, and in the fall we will see Jay Leno make his return to NBC in an all new time slot, prime-time. If you happened to catch the show this past Friday night, you were one of the many that did and made this the best Friday night showing ratings wise for The Tonight Show in years.
Seventeen years Leno had ruled over late night as he took over The Tonight Show from Johnny Carson. We all know of the battle that took place between him and David Letterman back then, but over the years it looks like those two ended up working out their problems and become friends of sorts.
Letterman had even stood up and spoke out about NBC firing Leno like they had, but this was before NBC unveiled their new plan to bring Leno back to the network in a new earlier time slot. Jay will take the summer off before he returns to take care NBC’s ten o’clock hour, which has always been reserved for dramas.
That is gone, and it is time for a new era to begin as Conan takes over The Tonight Show on Monday night. Conan is ready for it. Will you be tuning in to watch Conan on the new tonight show? What about Jay? Are you excited for his jump into prime-time. What do you think?

The Phone Comes To MTV
-
Justin Timberlake is no stranger when it comes to MTV. He was one of the big names on the network, both with *Nsync as a solo artist. His music videos made the network something to watch, and they landed him on the Total Request Live countdown time and time again. However, we know Total Request Live is gone, and unless you watch MTV in the middle of the night or in the early morning hours, there isn’t much in the way of music videos still on the network called music television.
Justin Timberlake returns to MTV this week. No, not with a new music video. He is bringing a series to the network as an executive producer. Another reality series of sorts where a group of people will go against each other using their cell phones to win a $50,000 payout prize. The four individuals playing in the game are going to be turned into action stars of sorts as they work through the competition for the prize.
The series premiered on Tuesday night, and if you watch MTV at all you probably saw the constant promotion for it. Timberlake thought up the concept for this little game, and I’m curious at what will happen here. MTV already has one competion style game with the challenges between former Real Worlders and Road Rulers still popular, even if some of the competitiors are getting older as time goes on. Am I the only one that misses the days when MTV really was music television?

Rudy Huxtable’s Reality?
-
Reality series always seem to pop up. They just keep coming and coming, and some networks that used to be the home of music television are now the home of one reality television series after another. I like my reality fix now and then, but I don’t really care to see about the lives of this person or that person. Celebrities are no different than us regular people in the long run. Who cares what they do when they go to the store or they lay around in bed at night?
Even with that, more and more celebrities are getting their own shows it seems. They either end up on VH1 or MTV or one of the other networks where reality television tends to rule things. The latest celebrity to get her own series will be the cute little girl from The Cosby Show. Yes, remember little Rudy? She is all grown up now. Hard to believe she is now a thirty year old woman. Keisha Knight Pulliam once one the hearts of America as Rudy though. I know she was one of my favorite parts of watching the series back in the 1980s.
Now, Oxygen is picking her up for a reality series that will follow her fun and amazing life living with her boyfriend. Oh, yes. This sounds oh so very exciting and worthy of a television series. A one time actress and her boyfriend. Yes, Rudy was cute, but in the words of Janet Jackson, what have you done for me lately? Not much really. Will you tune in to watch this one when it hits Oxygen?

We’re Off To See The Wizard?
-
I’ve heard of a lot of remakes and ideas for television series based off of movies and books, but this is one time I really hope it is some big rumor and not happening. I don’t think that is the case though. NBC has plans to remake The Wizard of Oz. Yes, The Wizard Of Oz, one of most classic movies of all the time. No, this isn’t the first time the movie has been re-made. We had The Wiz at one point and time, and I actually enjoyed that as a remake.
Back then remakes actually tried to do something a little bit different, and they were interesting. Now it just seems Hollywood isn’t able to find an original idea to save its life, and everything that ever made an hit impression is up to be remade. NBC has picked up this drama that is currently titled Dorothy Gale. It will be a modern re-telling of the classic novel and movie with Dorothy moving from Kansas to New York City.
There is something good behind this though. Jason Katims, the man behind such popular series as Friday Night Lights, Roswell and My So Called Life, is behind this new series. He won’t be writing things for the series, but he will be overseeing the project. This gives me just a little bit of hope that the project might be worth something. I’ve enjoyed what Katims has done in the past. Executive producing this series will be Friday Night Lights writer Bridget Carpenter. What do you think of this one?

Xena To Television Again
-
Who has forgot Xena? I know I haven’t. I used to tune in each and every weekend to watch the series and the woman that starred in it, Lucy Lawless. She has been quieter in recent years, but she is still around and kicking. She had a small role in season six of The L Word as the detective that comes in to help investigate who killed Jenny Schecter. I would have loved to seen more of her in this role, but she appeared in the season premiere and series finale only.
However, it did show that she still looks good. Now we will get to see even more of her in the near future. She has signed on to star in the next project from the minds behind Xena: The Warrior Princess - Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. Variety reported that these two are bringing Spartacus to the big screen with Lucy Lawless playing a major role in that. She will run a camp for gladiators.
This one is coming to us from Starz Media, and production for the series is set to start later this month. The series is set to start airing on Starz in January 2010. Andy Whitfield is set to take on the title role of Spartacus. I’m excited to see Lucy Lawless back on the small screen, and I am curious to see what they do with this series. With it being a cable series, they will have a bit more freedom with things. Think we can see Lucy Lawless naked? What do you think of this series?
