CW Gets Head Start On Fall
-
Yesterday, I talked about ABC’s fall premiere season, and now it is time to talk about the schedule for CW. The infant network hit the TV Critic’s Association over the weekend, and they announced that they are jumping into fall well before the other networks do. This is something I saw Fox do when it was still a younger network. It even had a mini summer season airing its then popular 90210.
Now 90210 is heading to CW, and fans who have been waiting for the show’s premiere won’t have much longer to wait. 90210 will premiere on CW on September 2 with a two hour series premiere, and it was made official that Shannen Doherty would indeed make an appearance on the series. Not sure how long of one, but Brenda Walsh will be seen. Tori Spelling told People Magazine that Doherty returning to 90210 is the best news fans could get, and I would have to agree with her. Brenda fell off the face of the planet when Doherty left. I would love to see what happened to her once Brenda left.
A date for the return of The Reaper has not yet been announced, but a date for the return of Supernatural has. Some are saying this fourth season might be the last for the season, but others point out a deal made the show’s creator for two more seasons. The deal just doesn’t say two seasons of Supernatural. Kripke could bring in a new series. Time will tell! For a full list of CW premiere dates, check out TV Squad.

ABC Announces Fall Premiere Dates
-
ABC has announced just when your favorite ABC series will be returning this fall. I’m going through withdrawals because a lot of my favorite series just happen to be on ABC. The Bachelor is so far missing from ABC’s line-up in the fall, and we all know Lost won’t return until early 2009. Premiere week for ABC starts on September 22nd, and for the next week and a half the series come back one by one.
As for Lost, the late season start seemed to work well for that series this year. The only issue with it is the long wait for fans for it to return, and this year the writer’s strike caused a big problem with the series. I’m not quite sure what the people behind Lost have in store for us next season. The six are off the island, and the rest of the island just disappeared. What will happen this season is anybody’s guess. Lost really does seem to enjoy to keep us guessing.
Over the weekend, The Hollywood Reporter did announce that fan favorite Denny Duquette would be returning to Grey’s Anatomy this season. They are not saying how, but he is coming back. Jeffrey Dean Morgan can be seen now in the trailer for Watchmen, which will be released in 2009. Katie Holmes is set to appear sometime this season on Eli Stone, which is the last series to make its fall premiere on ABC. If you want to know exactly when you’re favorite shows are returning, check out Coming Soon for the full list.

Did Emmy Nominators Agree With Heigl?
-
That is what it looks like! The Emmy nominations were announced yesterday morning, and not one main actor from Grey’s Anatomy was nominated this year. The past few they have made it into all of the main categories, but this year they are absent. The only nomination for acting on that series went to a guest star. What does this say about the uproar over Katherine Heigl’s comments about withdrawing her name from contention. Did other Grey’s stars quietly do the same? The series wasn’t even nominated for Best Series this year.
However, Ugly Betty, Lost and Brothers & Sisters all received nominations. All of these are ABC programs, and they all had to deal with the shortened season that Grey’s Anatomy did. Did these series step up to the plate more? That very well could be the case. I know I found myself enjoying the other series more than I did Grey’s this year. It was really an off year for the series.
With the TCA’s this week, it was announced that indeed Katherine Heigl would be staying on the series, but during the past week there has been so many rumors about Heigl and her character. The one I’ve seen thrown around the most is that Izzie will develop a brain tumor that would allow her to see Denny. Yes, if true this would mean the return of Jeffrey Dean Morgan to the series. I loved Denny on the show, and his brief return as a ghost walking around the halls of Seattle Grace waiting for those moments he knew Izzie was near killed everyone, me included. If this was to happen, expect the hankies to come out! For a full list of Emmy nominations, check out here.

Could Dr. Stevens Pay The Ultimate Price?
-
The buzz around Hollywood this week is that their are plans in motion to kill off Dr. Izzie Stevens from Grey’s Anatomy this season. This is following the comments Katherine Heigl made just last month when she withdrew herself from Emmy contention. Some are saying the powers behind Grey’s Anatomy are mad, and they want Izzie dead. However, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy has come out to deny these rumors.
The writers are mad, but those in the cast have come out making comments in support of Heigl. This season of Grey’s Anatomy was not its best. I’ve stated that before, and I will state it again. It didn’t pack the punch that previous seasons had, and Heigl was the only brave enough to say so as a member of the cast. She called a spade a spade. However, this doesn’t always bode well when someone speaks their mind.
Will her comments spell the end of her involvement with Grey’s Anatomy? We will have to tune in this next season to find out. We do know Grey’s Anatomy has no problems taking out the trash. They sent Washington packing after his issues on set. In other ABC news, GLAAD has recognized Brothers & Sisters for its gay story line. That series came in two seasons in the time slot once owned by Grey’s Anatomy, and it is now entering its third season.
This series is one of my favorites, and I loved how they handled the story line with Kevin and his boyfriend, now husband. Yes, gay marriages have hit prime time. While it has been seen before on series such as Roseanne, this is the first time a series has had it happen between two regular characters.

Brewster & Cox Head To Network TV
-
Weeks ago it was announced that Courtney Cox would be heading to Scrubs. That series once appearing on NBC, now has its home on ABC. This took a lot of time and maneuvering to get done, but Scrubs finally moved. ABC has expressed interest in the series for quite some time. NBC had given up on the series a couple of seasons back, but it kept the series, even with repeated attempts at ABC expressing interest. Now it is all said and done, and we will be able to see just how well the series does following the change.
As for Cox, she was recently appearing over on FX on Dirt. That series met cancellation at the end of its season, and this left Cox with some time on her hands. With no Friends movie in the works, she is now set to scrub in for a three episode arc where she will be playing the Chief of Medicine. If Scrubs had remained on NBC, this would have marked Cox’s return to the network. That didn’t happen though.
Jordana Brewster is heading over to NBC though. She will appear on Chuck as his college girlfriend that slept with his best friend. She is said to be the source for a lot of his current issues. Brewster has appeared on the big screen in The Fast & The Furious, and in the past she has even given daytime television a try. She began as Nikki Munson on CBS’ As The World Turns. That was so long ago though!
Another guest appearance just announced yesterday afternoon is that of Christina Ricci on Saving Grace. I talked about this series just yesterday, and its second season premiered last night. Ricci will appear in a three episode arc playing a young detective that partners with Grace. Ricci’s other television appearances include Grey’s Anatomy and Ally McBeal.
