ITV finally managed to show the premier of their original drama, Sold, last night. They’ve been trailering it for a very long time, letting us all know they’ve managed to pull Kris Marshall away from his BT vision.

Despite the endless hype attempts, the show was rubbish! Revolving around the party-hard life of estate agents, who acted more like share-holders during the .com boom. The pilot followed a classic underdog story — Colubrine (a less-than-fair-playing estate agency) bought out a failed back water estate agents and inherited Danny (a bit of a loser with a moral compass). After a week of no sales he took a severe mocking. However, Danny’s obsession with doing the right thing won out in the end and he outsold everyone else and got called the prodigal son by a man on a big screen (obscure, I now…). Huzzah!

It was all pretty boring stuff, nothing we haven’t seen before and lacking any great scripting/acting to make up for it. ITV’s got a history of bringing out these cutting edge original shows, generating serious hype around them and then axing them fairly soon in, anyone remember Tycoon or Sweet Medicine?

ITV may be upping it’s sports and news content, but seriously, can they not produce a decent drama? Come on ITV!
