Here we are the week which will make or break many series. The week where the networks tell us what stays and what goes. They release some of that information early, but most of it is kept under wraps until the big day in New York. Today was Fox’s turn to tell us what their next season will look like. Over the weekend, we had the announcement from the network that Dollhouse would be sticking around for another season. At least for another thirteen episodes. This renewal is despite low ratings and a spot in the Friday night death slot.

However, not every series was lucky. We now know that officially Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been canceled. There has been speculation on the future of the series for the last few weeks, but now that speculation is done, and we will not see a third season for the series. Warner Bros. is not looking for another network to shop the series too either.Fans of Terminator will have to get their fix from the new trilogy of movies. The first, Terminator Salvation, set for release later this week.

As for other Fox news, season five of So You Think You Can Dance will hit this summer, immediately following the end of American Idol, but we now know season six won’t wait until next summer. We will see it hit in the fall instead, and in the spring American Idol will return. Will a double dip of So You Think You Can Dance hurt the series? It seems to do well for Dancing With The Stars, so only time will tell!

Friday night has generally been the worst possible night for television. It is night known for date night. People don’t usually sit around and watch television on a night where they can go out and have a good time. Fox has generally had it pretty hard when it comes to television on Friday night. There has only been on series that was able to survive on Friday night, The X-Files. Other series that were regulated to the Friday night slots on Fox always ended up quickly canceled by the end of the season.

Now here we are in 2009, and two series have started their new reign on Friday night. Last Friday on Fox, we saw the return of sophmore series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and the premiere of Joss Whedon’s latest series, Dollhouse. This brings back Eliza Dushku to the network. Her last series, Tru Calling, was another Friday night casualty a couple of years ago. A couple of other popular series that ended soon after the Friday night slot of death are Dark Angel and Fastlane.

The ratings for both series were low, but there is hopes that with DVR viewing throughout the week, they will go up enough to not cause any problems for either series. Joss Whedon has said he knew ratings would be low, but he is looking at the future of the series with DVD sales and other promotion bringing in most of the numbers in the long run. He is hoping Fox sees it the same way.

As for The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the series is in its second season, and it is doing quite well, but ratings have been low this whole year. After some bumpy plot points, the series looks to be coming into its own, but will it last? What do you think?

Fox has announced that they plan to bring back Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chroniclesin August for a marathon re-airing the first season. This is prior to the premiere of the second season on September 8th. The series will return on August 10th, and episodes will air nightly four nights a week until August 24th.

The series is one of the standout hits Fox had this year, and that is surprising. Series that come in during mid-season for the network usually don’t do all that well, and they quickly fade away.We have seen this happen with a number of series over the years. The Sarah Connor Chronicles stood out about the rest, and it is continuing on. The series follows Sarah Connor as she fights to protect her teenage son from the terminators chasing after him. The series has played around quite a bit with the history of the series, but it is a risk that appears to be paying off so far.

I am actually quite excited for the next season to start, and I’m glad that Fox didn’t push this back to mid-season again. Terminator just seems to be hot right now. Work is moving forward on the next movie in New Mexico, and news from that camp comes out on a regular basis. They are waiting to see what happens with the SAG strike just like the rest of us are. Another strike this year would just be another crushing blow to this industry, and we have to cross our fingers and hope for the best with it.

At least, her singing voice is. The American Idol winner of season six was just seen on this season’s show singing her hit with Chris Brown, and she was set to go on tour with Alicia Keys. Now, they are saying there is a chance she might never sing again. The star is now suffering from an acute vocal cord hemorrhage, and if she doesn’t rest her voice there is a serious chance for permanent damage. This would be a blow to the young singer. A rising star following in the footsteps of previous Idol winners, such as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, it would be hard to see her career cut short with the potential she has. This week on American Idol, we’re down to the final six as they work with Andrew Lloyd Webber on songs from his collection.

In other Fox news today, there are rumblings from TV Guide that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has indeed been renewed for a second season, but Fox is currently declining to comment. This could be rumor, but if it is true I am glad to see the series return for a second season. As a Terminator fan, I’m enjoying the series. It does twist the story a bit, ignoring the third movie in the trilogy, and instead using the events in the second as a basis for what occurs in the series. Brian Austin Green came in and put glue to what was a good series and turning it into a great one. I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do next with the Terminator mythology. Of course, this is all based on what TV Guide saying today being true. Fox is known for pulling the plug on shows, even after saying they will return. Dark Angel is one such series that comes to mind. We’ll have to see what happens.

There is a lot going on over at Fox. We all know American Idol is in full swing, and we’re closing in on this year’s American Idol. This week, Mariah Carey came on to mentor the contestants as they picked songs from her catalog. Last night, Kristy Lee Cook was eliminated from the competition. This now leaves six. People are still dealing with last week’s shocking elimination of Michael Johns, but this week’s elimination was far less shocking. We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the weeks to come.

In other Fox news, the man behind the hit series Battlestar Galactica, Ronald D. Moore, has received the go ahead from Fox for a new series, Virtuality. The science fiction series will come from Universal, and it will follow the members on board Earth’s first star-ship as they use the ship’s virtual reality machines to pass the time they have on board. All goes well until they find a flaw in the system. Sounds like it could be interesting. Fox typically isn’t too good to series with science fiction though.

Firefly and Dark Angel both didn’t last long, and the fate of this year’s hit, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is still up in the air. Fox is generally just hard on shows period, especially on mid-season replacements. The news is looking good for The Sarah Connor Chronicles though. Word has it from the powers to be at Fox that the series is likely to return. They are already staffing people for filming. This is a good sign if its true. We’ll have to wait and see. I know I’d be glad to see the show return.

Fox has been talking about this show coming to the network for the past year. It was hyped over and over again in the press, and the show has now finally hit. A few weeks in, and we have a pretty good idea at just what this series is about. It takes place in that span of time in between the second and third film, but the series doesn’t follow its time line at all. The series is big with a movie feel, and we even have a movie star to head things in Lena Headey. She had huge shoes to fill taking over the role from Linda Hamilton who played Sarah Connor in the movie.

We can see the high cost this series has, and it is worth it. The series was off air this week to political coverage, but things will pick up next week. In this series, Sarah, John and his terminator protector played by Summer Glau have traveled through time in order to once again prevent Skynet from being created and the war of the machines to begin. Some things are kept true to the movie time line. We know sometime in this series, Sarah Connor will in fact die from cancer. The terminator warns her of this, and Sarah does her best in order to prevent it. There is a terminator after them, and the three must stay one step ahead of their game if they are to survive.

This series is fast paced with a lot of things to follow. Ratings have been positive, but you have to wonder how much of that is due to the fact we have a strike going on with not much to watch in the way of new programming. There are some series that stand out. Kyle XY being one, and this series definitely being another for me. I find myself tuning in, and I will continue to do so until this series ends with its season finale in early March. We will have to hope the ratings continue on, and the series stays around for a second season. I know I’m hoping for that.

It was announced earlier this year that the Terminator would be coming to our television screens sometime during the 2007 - 2008. The Terminator series of films have been made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger, and a new trilogy of films is in progress of being. The television series set to air on Fox will take a deeper look at Sarah Connor played by actress Linda Hamilton in the two of the three films. Lena Headey picks up the role for the series, and it will focus on the time period in between the second and third film. She supposedly develops cancer and dies during that time period. Linda Hamilton declined to appear in the third film.

Fox has been hyping up the series a great deal, and with the writers strike still in place they do need new shows to air. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles premieres on the network in January with a two night special event. The first night being Sunday January 13th. The series will then air in its normal time slot the next night. The series is big in nature, so it is surprising to see it appear on the networks.

Currently, Fox is holding a contest for fans to design a poster for the series. The deadline for the contest is December 14th. Between December 18th-21st, fans will be able to vote for the design they like the best out of the five chosen, and the design winning the most votes will be named the winner. The prize for the contest is a trip to Hollywood for the series premiere party on January 9th. For more information on the contest, check out the Terminator website on Fox.
