The Office Set to Expand This Fall
-

The rumors have been flying for about a year now: An Office spinoff is in the works. Well, the boys in NBC’s back room have finally come through. This rumor was, in fact, true. NBC officially announced that a spin-off of the Office will begin airing next season. The premiere will reportedly be held until February 1st of ‘09. It will air after the Super Bowl. The show will then move to Thursday nights and be preceded by the original Office.
The CSI franchise worked for CBS. Why not try the same with a show that isn’t Law and Order? NBC’s anemic ratings call for something drastic. Not that a second Office is drastic. It’s bound to be a hit, at least at the beginning.
So who is going to rule over the new Office? Rumors abound after the click (more…)

NBC planning office spin-off
-

TVguide.com is reporting that NBC has plans for a spin-off of hit show, The Office. Apparently it would happen much the same way as Private Practice spun-off Grey’s Anatomy. However, there will apparently be no cross-over in the casts —
unlike Practice, which stole Grey’s regular Kate Walsh to anchor the new series, the proposed Office 2 is not expected to include any of the mother ship’s core cast.
There seems to be a lot of opposition to the idea, which I find comical as the US version of the office is essentially a spin-off of the original UK version which was wildly successful. I personally don’t watch the office, so I’d love to hear everyone else thoughts on the plan.

The Office
The Office is the title of multiple television situation comedy shows. The first was the UK version, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Initially broadcast on BBC Two on 9 July 2001, it ran for two seasons plus a two-part Christmas special. The show’s success prompted NBC to create an American version, which premiered on 24 March 2005, two years after the original ended. Despite an outcry from fans of the original, the US version recovered from a shaky start to become very successful in its own right. The US version is based in Scranton, Pennsylvania, which is a real city. References are made throughout the show based on the real city of Scranton regarding restaurants and other landmarks such as Lake Wallenpaupack.
