The Simpsons will go on and on. Fox has announced earlier this week that they have decided to pick up the series for two more seasons. They ordered forty-four more episodes of the cartoon. This will extend Bart’s run through season twenty-two. The episode number count for this series will rest at just under 500 with 493 episodes. With that number being so close, it is almost insured that we will see a pick up for season twenty-three just to have the episode count at 500. Might as well go for broke right?

In its day, The Simpsons was one of the best cartoons on television. Some might say one of the best series on television. Those days have been long gone. There are really only so many stories you can tell before things go stale. I remember seeing The Simpsons when I was younger, and even well into my teen years. As I aged, I stopped tuning in. Bart has been stuck in the same age for twenty years. Not one day older.

However, there is no denying that The Simpsons is the longest running series on television. Something keeps making people tune in week after week to see the antics of the first cartoon family to last longer than most non-cartoon series. With how networks are quick to cancel series these days, something tells me that The Simpsons will remain on top of their game for quite some time to come. No one will be able to top twenty-seasons the way television is today. What do you think? Do you still watch The Simpsons?

That’s right folks, Homer and the rest of the gang are confirmed to return for another season in the fall. This season will make number twenty for the series, and it ties the series for the longest series running in prime-time television. This honor is shared by Gunsmoke. The Simpsons are not just a cartoon on television, but to fans it is a phenomenon. The 2007 Simpsons movie has made over $550 million in sales. The series is on the top rated network. Bart is forever the trouble maker.

However, this almost didn’t happen. The actors that provide the voices for the characters we all know and love fought for a pay raise. They wanted $500,000 per episode. Before the pay raise they earned this week, they were making just about $300,000 per episode. Now the actors make about $400,000, which is a $100,000 pay raise. That is definitely not too bad. The actors were set to return to work this week, but with this delay they will return to their sound booths next week to start work on a twenty episode season to start in the fall.

As a fan of The Simpsons, I am glad to see an agreement reached here. The Simpsons is one of Fox’s mainstays, and it would be sad to see it go. Bart won’t always be a little kid though. He will have to grow up sometime, and on that day many will be saddened to see the end of an era.

It’s almost considered a right of passage for a politician to guest star on The Simpsons. But, needing to give a character subtitles is a new one.

In 2003, Tony Blair guest starred on the Simpsons. (That’s the one where Homer confuses Blair with Rowan Atkinson, AKA Mister Bean). Some point to that cameo as the point when Blair started to be recognized in the US.

Now, the man who was arguably England’s most recognizable PM has gone to wherever ex-politicians go. For the life of me, I couldn’t pick the new head of England’s parliament out of a line-up. Perhaps that’s why, after initially turning producers down, Gordon Brown is set to get his animated likeness onto a Simpsons’ episode.

Producers of the animated hit are worried that Brown’s Scottish accent might be unintelligible to yankee viewers. Thus, the apparent need for subtitles.

Luckily, at least some Scots seem to be laughing about the idea.

Wannabe Oval Office Sitters Clinton, McCain, Obama, and all the rest have done the late night talk show circuit. I’m wondering if a Simpsons cameo could be the make or break moment for the next president of the U.S. That might be a win-win situation. I mean, after 19 years, the Simpsons have to be searching for fresh material. But politics and politicians: Always funny.

A rather harsh quote from Yeardley Smith (Lisa) Britney is ripe for the picking. But we have to do it well - I don’t want to be cruel. Well, the proposed re-enactment of “Hit me Baby one more time” in Bart’s school will probably be more cruel to the audience than Britney.

Britney is clearly a firm believer of the age-old saying any press is good press, so I’m sure she’ll be delighted with a cameo trip through Springfield.

Way back in 2003, the then British prime minister (recently seen acting in a Cadbury’s chocolate advert) Tony Blair, took up a cameo role in the Simpsons. The voice footage was recorded in secret in the dark depths of No.10 and now Yeardley Smith (the voice of Lisa) wants the new <strike>silver back</strike> Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, to lend his voice to a bright yellow look-alike.

Matt Groening, creator of the show, insisted that Browner would not be making an appearance as it was too late for him to make it into the season premier and they didn’t want to cover old ground by having another Prime Minister. The fact that Yeardley, a commanding member of the cast, thinks it would be “fun” to have a scot on the show may well make it happen mind you.

If they decided to go ahead with this and can’t get Brown himself on, it’s likely that they’ll make use of a “voice-double”. My suggestion would be that they make use of the actor currently playing Groundskeeper Willy.
