Showtime has announced a third season for the series that follows the life and loves of King Henry VIII. In this telling of the story, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is the King, and we’re currently following his life with Anne Boleyn, who will lose her head sometime this season. This time period is popular at the moment because a major motion picture focusing on the Boleyn sisters also made its way to viewers this year in The Other Boleyn Girl. The film starred Eric Bana, Scarlett Johannson and Natalie Portman. The series has done quite well for Showtime, and the network plans to follow the life of King Henry VIII and all of his six wives. Filming for the third season will begin in June in Dublin, Ireland.

I wasn’t grabbed up into The Tudors craze during its first season, but I came into it later when the series was released on DVD. It is a telling of the time period that is more sensational than what many be used to, and you do have to wonder just how accurate of a telling it is as well. I do find myself enjoying it though, and I have it set on my DVR for weekly viewing. It’ll be curious to see what they do with Jonathan Rhys Meyers. So far he hasn’t appeared as we know King Henry VIII looked like in real life. Will he have to eventually put on a fat suit? Or will he continue on as he is now?

Showtime has also renewed The L Wordfor a sixth and final season once the fifth season wrapped up. The last season of the series will contain eight episodes, and it will hopefully tie up all the loose ends left from this season’s shocking finale. Marlee Matlin is mentioned a possible return to the series briefly. She was just seen eliminated from this season’s Dancing With The Stars last night when her last dance was just too much for her.
