    • The Golden Globes were announced in Los Angeles in a low key affair at the Beverly  Hilton. No, we didn’t have a star studded red carpet as I mentioned would happen earlier this month. Instead we had a news conference in which the winners were announced, and yes there were some surprises. At least there was to me. Some are saying that the winners announced at the Globes are showing no sign of who will actually win at The Academy Awards when those take place.

However, that is movie talk and this is all about television. Several of your favorites series and television stars were also honored last night. One most noticeable to me is David Duchovny winning for best actor in a comedy series for Showtime’s Californication. This series was one of my favorites of 2007, and I’m looking forward to its second season. I tuned in weekly to see the life of Hank, a down and out writer living in Los Angeles, as he deals with work, being a parent and the love he still has for his ex even though she has moved on and is engaged to another. The whole back and forth between the couple takes up the entire season, and when the last moment airs we see them finally together as she ditches her own wedding reception and runs off with Hank. What will happen in season two?

Other winners include Glenn Close for her acting work in FX’s Damages. I also tuned in to watch some of this series, but it lost me somewhere during the third episode. The only winner for a broadcast television network show this year was Tina Fey for her work on 30 Rock. The rest of the winners were all from cable series and networks. Does cable do it better? Maybe it is the freedom cable has. They certainly can get away with a lot more. Here is a full list of this year’s Golden Globe winners courtesy of the Associated Press.
