    • Golden GobesThe strike, which is now entering its eighth week, has been effecting every thing. With 2008 beginning tomorrow, this means an all new award season is soon to be under way. News earlier this month that The People’s Choice Awards would go to a magazine style format was the first sign of a very different awards season. Next up after those awards are handed out are the Golden Globes.

The WGA has already promised to picket the event if it goes forward as planned. The show is a Dick Clark Production and writers from that company are also on strike. Because of the threat of striking writers attending the show to picket, the Hollywood Foreign Press did mention the possibility of the show not being televised as planned on NBC over the weekend. Just this morning, however, it was announced that the show will go on as scheduled on January 13th.

NBC will air the event, but it’ll be different than it has been in previous years. Many Hollywood big names are opting out of attending the event in support of striking writers. As for the show itself, it will be unscripted. Host Jon Stewart will have to handle things all on his own. This should make an interesting night for all to watch. It certainly puts Stewart on the spot, but he’s quick on his feet.

We’ll have to see what happens. Maybe the strike will end in time. Writers and actors alike can then fully enjoy the awards season ahead. Next up following The Golden Globes is The Academy Awards. Will the strike end before Oscar gets punched?
