ITV just keeps getting better
-

ITV have been breaking a lot of headlines this month, releasing their own Youtube channel, moving the news back to 10 and bringing back Trevor McD and today they’ve made 2 more significant announcements.
The first is that their news shows will soon be switching to widescreen (16:9) format. The first news program to be broadcasted in the new format will be the 5:30am news bulletin on the morning of December 2nd and from that point on all regional and national news will be widescreen. However, the west country regional news programs will be left out of the change and will continue to be broadcasted in 4:3 format. I don’t know why this is, I live in the west country and know very few people who are still using a non-widescreen TV. ITV doesn’t seem to have any immediate plans to change the former for west country viewers either.
The second piece of news is that Craig Doyle, a long standing member of the BBC sports team, will be defecting to ITV sports next May. Doyle’s been presenting on the BBC for over four years and it seems a little incidental that his move (which is somewhat unexpected) coincides with the recent budget cuts suffered by the Beeb.
ITV is clearly planning to step up their sports programming next year and Doyle should make for a strong asset in doing so, although he’ll be presenting the six nations coverage on the BBC prior to the move.
