    • Fans all know the rivalry between David Letterman and Jay Leno. Movies were made about the late night battle that ended up with Jay taking over for Johnny Carson and Dave heading over to CBS over a decade ago. Now Jay is riding off into the sunset and he is preparing to end his late night run in May 2009. Conan O’Brien is already set to take over Jay’s spot with Jimmy Fallon coming in to take over for Conan.

In a shocker, Dave has actually spoke out about the changes to come in late night television, and he is standing up for Jay Leno.  He doesn’t understand why Jay Leno is getting the boot from his late night spot after how much he has done for NBC over the years. This is something not many expected to see, but it is nice to see Dave moving beyond their past issues and speaking out.

As for his own future on CBS, he would like to continue on with his contract and even beyond it. His contract is up in 2010. If at that time, CBS wants to make a change he would be fine with it, but he wants to continue. Not for too much longer, but long enough. He wants to leave his spot on his own terms and not be forced out, as he thinks is happening to Jay.

As a fan of late night television, I was shocked to see Jay’s departure come up as well, but NBC seems to have a plan in place for it. We will see what happens when the changes are made in the summer of 2009.
