    • Anyone that watches day time television will recognize Montel Williams. I’ve been a fan of his talk show, and I have watched it some over the years when time allowed me to. Well, Montel decided to end his seventeen year run with his talk show, and you might think that would be the end of him. This is where you would be wrong. Montel Williams has just been cast in a role on one of daytime’s biggest soap operas, also its longest running, Guiding Light.

That series has been on air, in one form or another, for seventy-one years. Yes, I am a fan. We can blame my mother for getting me hooked on soap operas at an early age. I still tune in from time to time, but it is by no means a daily love affair. Guiding Light has made some changes in the past year. Some that were quite shocking to me when I checked in recently. The series has expanded its sets and even headed outdoors to film some of the action in Springfield.

Not the fake outdoors we have seen with many shows, but they have a small town they use for exteriors it looks like. A beautiful town, but it has taken a bit to get used to this. I know a year and a half ago, the soap did some exterior shots for one of its major story lines, and it worked well. Perhaps from that experience they moved on to this new style for daytime soaps. It really is a first. If you haven’t checked into Springfield for a while it might be worth a look to decide if it works for you.

As for Montel Williams, he is coming in as the father of two of Guiding Light’s characters, Remy and Mel. Both have been on the series for quite some time, and he will come in to help his son deal with the fact that his laugh is completely upside down at the moment. Montel’s first appearance on the series is set for August 1st.

It’ll be really cool to see Montel on a soap! I wish he didn’t have to cancel his show. It was one of the best :(
