    • I think we saw this coming. This isn’t the first time I’ve mentioned how much MTV has turned from the station for music to a station that is about anything else but music. We lost Total Request Live last month, and that was the real last true source for what was happening in the music world on that network. It appears to only be getting worse now though.

This week, MTV announced that they will be bringing sixteen new reality shows to the network in the new year. Yes, you read right. Sixteen new shows. This doesn’t include Real World or any of their other offerings already on air I think. That is a huge number when it really comes down to it. A fan of music is probably shaking their head as much as I am right now.

I grew up on MTV. I remember watching it in its early days when it was all about music. Sure, they had The Real World come on in 1991, and they had a few game shows come in here and there. Anyone remember Remote Control like I do? The Real World and their game shows didn’t really interfere with what MTV was about though. They only added more to the network.

Now, we have lost music entirely. If you want more music on MTV, you need to watch one of their off shoots. Yes, they have MTV2 and MTV Latina. A few others. They play music and music videos on there. It would be nice to see them on regular basic MTV again, but I think that is a time that has passed for us.
