Soaps 2.0 is here!
-

You know TV 2.0 is well and truly upon us when you start seeing facebook widgets for your favourite soaps, including Emmerdale and Corrie.
ITV have released a set of widgets for their two dominant soaps that can be embedded on a variety of Social Networking sites, most notably MySpace, Facebook, Netvibes and iGoogle.
The widgets display headlines and excerpts of the latest news on your favourite shows, including previews of upcoming shows. I can’t really see them taking off, they don’t allow for any true interaction apart from sharing the widget with friends (yet more facebook “add this application” spam).
This is just a blatant attempt by ITV to exploit growing trends online and generate some
viral
buzz. They’ve managed to successful create a TV-internet parallel campaign previously withThe Bill
(a la Heroes 360 experience) and it’s disappointing not to see them taking the same approach here. -
