    • Cable movie network Starz has decided to do what other cable movie networks have done and create its own original programming. HBO and Showtime both jumped into original programming years ago, and now Starz has made a deal with Lionsgate to create its own original drama based off of Academy Award winning movie, Crash. This is the second time a television series has been based off of an award winning film. The first series being In The Heat of the Night.

Many of those behind bringing the movie to the big screen are fully behind bringing this story to the small screen. Paul Haggis, the man that co-wrote the screen play had originally wanted the story to be developed for television audiences. This is the first dramatic series for Starz. Production will begin this spring on the thirteen episode one hour serial. The series will not only take a look at race relations in Los Angeles, but it will touch on other topics as well.

I’ve been a fan of original programming on both HBO and Showtime for a long time now. Some of my favorite series have come from these networks, and I’m excited to see what Starz can do with Crash. No word yet on just when the series will hit the air, but comedy has already hit the network already. Hollywood Residential appeared on the network just last week. Another comedy, Head Case, is also set for the network.
