    • Many gave July 1st as the day to watch in regards to the pending actor’s strike. Their contracts were up at midnight on June 30th, but no strike happened. Talks continued on, and now we have news that the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists has made a deal. A deal that seems to have angered the Screen Actors Guild, the major actor union. A deal reached by the smaller union could prevent the SAG from making a better deal on their end with the studios.

The news of this deals means good news though. With a new prime-time television contract in place, the chances of an actors strike is even less likely to happen. This deal has made substantial gains in money for new media as well as more traditional ones. The smaller union always did seem more willing to work with the studios on some type of deal. A strike would have put even more hurt on an industry already crippled once this years by the writer’s strike.

There really is no telling what would have happened if a strike had taken place this summer. Series would have been delayed once again, and this time movies would have felt more of a hit. The writer’s strike did have a stronger impact on television than movies, but some movies were also affected by that earlier strike. In recent weeks, actors on both sides have been loud and now I’m hoping this new deal will settle things deal, and we can get down to the business of the fall season and more new movies!
