    • If you’re a fan of reality television or a fan of MTV programming, you probably know what premieres this week. The next challenge between Real World and Road Rules, The Gauntlet III makes its way onto small screens tonight, taking the time slot used by the Real World: Sydney up until last week. This is the tenth year for the competition style shows that started as a spin off of the Real World and Road Rules series back in 1998. Real World, one of the first reality series premiered in 1992, and they are currently filming their twentieth season in Hollywood. That will premiere in May.

I’ve been a fan of the Real World series since it premiered, and there have only been a couple of seasons that I didn’t watch. Never being a Road Rules fan or one that enjoyed the competition type shows that seem to be popular on other networks, the challenge shows that MTV puts out have gained my viewership over the years. I think it is because of the antics that take place. During the duration of the previous challenge seasons, we’ve had fights, shouting matches, sex and even more sex. People just don’t get along. Both within teams and between teams.

This season of The Gauntlet III will be a bit different because MTV is now going to an hour long format each week instead of just thirty minutes episodes. This should be interesting to see because I’m not used to them going on for an hour long. Previews for this season show that this season will be no different. We’re headed for fights and fun with some of our favorites from past Real World seasons joining in the antics. The series premieres Wednesday, January 23rd at 10pm! Don’t miss it.
