    • When it has come to music television, Total Request Live has set the standard for music programming since 1998. Appearing on MTV, the series otherwise known as TRL, has become the place to go to see the latest in music videos. From premieres and interviews with both musicians and actors, the series has really become a part of the television landscape. I remember watching it daily myself until just a few years ago.

Now word has it that MTV is pulling the plug on TRL after ten years of being on air. The series has been canceled, and it will air its final episode on a Saturday in November. The series might come back from time to time for special episodes, but TRL as a daily trip through the day’s music is finally coming to an end. Carson Daly originally hosted the series, and over the years many new faces have taken on the show.

It has even started the career of some. Remember when Hilarie Burton was pulled from the crowd? I know I do. She is now a star of film and television. She can thank TRL for discovering her. I may not watch the series every single day anymore, but I still tune in from time to time. TRL will be a missing element to the MTV line-up. It is one of the few remaining series on the network that started as true music television that focuses on music. MTV can no longer really call itself music television these days, and that is sad.
